The definition of a person who “has no filter” is a tendency to say exactly what one is thinking without considering the consequences. It neglects to describe what a person might otherwise filter through: people pleasing, cultural conditioning, fear, shame. Its linguistic neutrality sidesteps the associated risks of being judged unlikeable, inappropriate, foolish, emotional. It sidesteps the value of honesty, and the implications for integrity.
